About WHS
Welcome to the Woodbridge Horticultural Society Website. Founded in 1852 the Society is affiliated to The Royal Horticultural Society and Suffolk Horticultural & Produce Association.
We are a very friendly group usually meeting on the SECOND THURSDAY of the month at the Community Hall, Station Road, Woodbridge, starting at 7.30 pm. and visitors are most welcome. Our aim is to provide informative and entertaining presentations on a wide range of gardening topics. It is an opportunity for visitors to meet members and discuss gardening issues. We also have a monthly competiton and a raffle to complete the evening.
In addition, our programme of events includes outings to fine gardens and houses, Spring and Autumn Coffee Mornings in members' gardens, and an annual Strawberry Tea, also in a member's garden. Every November our popular annual Buffet Supper is held in Woodbridge Community Hall. You are bound to find something of interest and pleasure at a number of our events.
Every year, on a weekend in early July, the society stages the Woodbridge Flower Show . This is the opportunity for members and non members to enter some 150 classes ranging from flowers, vegetables and fruit to home baking, photography and handicrafts. After the judging the show is open to the public.
We produce Spring and Autumn newsletters which are circulated to all members. The newsletters feature a synopsis of forthcoming talks with some background on the speakers, a diary of events and other interesting gardening items.
Woodbridge Horticultural Society hosts the biannual Royal Horticultural Society regional talk. This is usually a sell out event as we attract a large audience to listen to a well known gardening celebrity. In Spring 2009 Pippa Greenwood gave a very interesting talk on Great Veg Growing which certainly captured the popular mood. Past speakers have included Joe Swift, Bunny Guinness Nigel Colbourne and Roy Lancaster.
Subscriptions are £7 per member per year, falling due on 1st January.
